MARINE ALUMINUM ANODIZING
Saltwater is unforgiving on untreated aluminum. NIA anodizes marine hardware, fittings, and fabricated components to withstand the corrosive demands of freshwater and saltwater environments.
WHY MARINE PARTS NEED MORE THAN BARE ALUMINUM
Aluminum naturally forms a thin protective oxide layer, but that layer isn’t enough to stand up to constant saltwater exposure. Chloride ions accelerate corrosion and pitting on unprotected aluminum over time. Anodizing builds a much thicker, ceramic-like oxide layer that creates a real barrier against that damage — extending the service life of cleats, fasteners, deck hardware, masts, and other marine components.
THE ALLOYS THAT MATTER MOST
5000-series alloys (like 5052 and 5083) offer the strongest natural corrosion resistance for marine use, while 6000-series alloys (like 6061) offer more strength but benefit more from anodizing’s added protection. We anodize both.
WORTH KNOWING
Anodized aluminum holds up exceptionally well in marine environments, but it isn’t indestructible — a deep scratch can expose bare aluminum to saltwater and allow localized corrosion to start. Proper part design, careful handling, and re-anodizing when needed keep marine components protected for the long haul.
